    Everything below seemed ok from the begining i have looked in them several times:

    There are no services with Ready status, It should be as below. Register oracle service with listener manually "SQL> alter system register" and then retry.

      Instance "primdb", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
    Also modify your listener for even dynamic registration, You can change below as per your environment.

    Hi CKPT,

    Thanks a lot for your assistance and patience.

    Its on now, a simple reboot did it.
    I am not sure what went wrong, i have configured data guard for 5/6 times in solaris, linux and windows server but didnt face this problem anywhere before.

    After reboot this became ok but my question is why a reboot was required and solved it?
    It could be there were hung processes.

    the listner status showing UNKNOWN now but it ok:

    Your standby database had to be made aware of the newly created password file. As said earlier, you had to bounce the standby database.

    Hi Rao,

    I did bounce the standby database but it failed to resolve, the problem resolved after i rebooted the machine.
