where did you assign the variable ? Did you do it in the 'resource' propertie of the target datastore ?
If you don't use package, the problem is you won't be able to refresh your variable...
yes i use the variable in resource field.... i will be refreshing variable in a package separately before running my interface..... i do not understand why running interface creates two files ,one for header and one for data
what is the name of the second file ? (the file that doesn't have the name of the variable)
one file name is some number like 19.txt and other filename is 20121211_TEST.txt (this name is coming from variable).....
however when i create a package with variable and interface,only one file is created 20121211_TEST.txt (header and data are not created in separate files.)

Second question : what is the history value of your variable ?
history value is correct.
it seems that interface doesnt evaluate variable and create a dummy file.
i have created a package with an interface and variable in refresh mode.It is now working fine...
