The errors you report in this thread seem to be a moving target. We don't know what you've done to create this mess. This latest error has nothing to do with your previous error, for which you have not responded to questions for more information.

But a common thread seems to be that the OS keeps telling you (either directly or bubbling an error message up through oracle) that your permissions on this server are FUBAR. I am getting the very strong impression that whoever set up this system lacks the necessary fundamental skills in Linux and Oracle and did not read and follow the oracle installation guide.

And you keep posting the latest error message with no indication that you've done any research on your own to solve it. So I'll repeat a question I keep asking. What did you discover when you googled the reported error message?

    Hi Stevens ;

As per my senior suggestion i recreated user using m command. (useradd -m foo.oinstall )
than i set environment for foo user . It connected at that that we perfomed some othertasks with
my juniors so i shut local server DB , then i issue startup command , i faced that error.

I have installed many times 10g successfully with local server. When trying to demo for
external authentication ..i am facing too many problems. Almost i lost.

    To STEVE :
"* I'll repeat a question I keep asking. What did you discover when you googled the reported error message?*
+I believed my stuff and experience as well as some training docs .. but unfortunately training databases+
    +not working even i couldn't startup also.+

System security specialist saying no issues with OS. yes i agre ,

    I want to know why i couldn't i startup my DB ?
What is the need to enable adump here , when setting env to foo user ?
Still i don't have any reason to find out.
If you help me to find out where the problem is occurred ,  It will be good stuff to me to enhance myself.

The issues you are facing are typically not the kinds of things security specialists deal with or know about.

+"I have installed many times 10g successfully with local server.+

+"I believed my stuff and experience as well as some training docs"+

Then you should know that adump has nothing to do with setting up a user. And you should know that the init parameter 'audit_file_dest' designates the adump directory. And you should know how to check that directory to see if maybe it is full or if the permissions on it allow oracle to write to it.

Still i don't have any reason to find out.

You really should open new threads for new problems.
And you really should learn to google error messages.

ORA-01997:     GRANT failed: user 'string' is identified externally
Cause:     You cannot grant the SYSOPER or SYSDBA privilege to a user created with the IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY clause.
Action:     If you wish to grant the user the SYSOPER or SYSDBA privileges, drop and re-create the user without the IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY clause.

    Looks pretty straightforward to me.
