"You can use either Oracle UCM 11g or Oracle UCM 10g as the Oracle I/PM repository. For information about configuring Oracle UCM 11g, see Chapter 4, "Configuring Oracle Enterprise Content Management Suite," Chapter 5, "Configuring Oracle Universal Content Management," and Section 220.127.116.11, "Configuring Oracle Content Server 11g to Work with Oracle I/PM." For information about using Oracle UCM 10g as the repository, see Section 18.104.22.168, "Installing and Configuring Oracle UCM 10g to Work with Oracle I/PM."
You can just upload a new document to Imaging as described here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/user.1111/e12783/c03_upload.htm#i1165955
Note that you might have to setup few things in Imaging first (metadata setup from Imaging is auto-created in UCM).
Once you are done, you may verify that a new content item has been checked in the UCM too.

This will create metadata for you (called "Application Fields" in Imaging). Already at this point you could verify in UCM (Configuration Admin applet) that metadata have been created on the UCM side.
Nevertheless, it's better to verify that you can upload a new doc. The Upload Document is available under Tools menu. If you can't see it, then Imaging is not fully configured.
