    Error with adding new library

    981366
      Hi everyone,
I have installed osb in a server (running on Linux) where it is working as an administrator, media and client.
I am using Web Tool to configure it but using makedev in obtool I have to add a library of iscsi device named lib0. The iscsi device is Dell PS 6100 model, though lsscsi shows model as EQLOGIC 100E-00.
I can find the library in the Web Tool. But it is not showing the WWN number and showing an warning as
no hardware info is available for library lib0 - unsupported device type (not tape or library)
If i try to verify the device then it says:
      collecting dte info...
      library lib0 ...
opening library: unsupported device type (not tape or library)
verifying dte definitions against drive objects...
      Summary of verify errors:
      library open errors: 1
When I try to ping it, it says:
can't open library lib0 - unsupported device type (not tape or library)

For your kind information I am following the Oracle Secured Backup installation Guide for osb installation. And I have only one library and I have added attachment according to installation Guide. The storage iscsi device is well-configured and from outside I can ping that device with not problem and it is already mounted with linux.

Now what should I do, I am in need of its solution urgently. Would anyone help me ?

      Thank you

          Hello;

Try this and see if the configuration gives you any clues :
          obtool lsdev -lvg
          http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26569_01/doc.104/e21480/about_obtool.htm

          Best Regards

            obtool lsdev -lvg
            Device type: library
            Model: [none]
            Serial number: [none]
            In service: yes
            Debug mode: no
            Barcode reader: default (hardware-selected)
            Barcodes required: no
            Auto clean: no
            Clean interval: (not set)
            Clean using emptiest: no
            Unload required: yes
            Ejection type: auto
            Min writable volumes: 0
            UUID: 1287b97a-2c53-1030-ba07-001018f13c78
            Attachment 1:
            Host: REVE_A
            Raw device: /dev/sg6
            Connection type: [unknown]
opening handler: unsupported device type (not tape or library)
            --------------------------------------------------------
You can see many fields are not set, I don't see the WWN but got the UUID and attachment. I can't figure out what could be the reason :(

Post the output from "sg_map -x -i" so we can check the devices.

I would also suggest you use the persistent udev links /dev/tape/by_id rather than the direct /dev/sg entries, which can move around with reboots.

              Thanks

I just looked this hardware up and it is not a tape library, it is an iSCSI SAN. So what exactly are you trying to do?

                    Thank you rdoogan.
Yes, this is not tape library, this is iSCSI SAN. I want to use this as a library for oracle secure backup. What should I do ?

The current version of Oracle Secure Backup does not support writing backups directly to disk storage. You have to use a supported Virtual Tape Library vendor, which is purchased/licensed directly from them.

                      Thanks
