Don't touch your database. Oracle binaries (the software) has nothing to do with the database (the datafiles). You can reinstall the software without having any issue within your database as long as it's properly set (database datafiles outside ORACLE_HOME).
hi nicolas, so does this mean that i dont need to export & import the peoplesoft schemas as suggested above? i can simply re-install the programme while making sure that the BIN path of the new installation remains the same for the database? please correct me if i am wrong..thanks
I don't know exactly why you want to reinstall Oracle software, but what I'm trying to say is the software has nothing to do with the database.
You can install the software everywhere you want onto the server, keeping your database's files untouched. Then set the env. variables to the new installation path.
few days back i installed kaspersky antivirus and ran the full scan. ever since i am not able to start the sql plus. when i try to start it, it gives me this error message
Error 57 initializing SQL*Plus
Error loading message shared library
i am hoping that this problem will get resolved if i re-install the software to get missing libraries, if any, required to start sql plus.
