      Hi all,

      while rebuilding index in oracle 7.3.3.5.0 version. on linux getting following error.

      SQL> alter index xxxx rebuild;
      alter index xxxx rebuild
      *
      ERROR at line 1:
      ORA-01467: sort key too long

      Oracle has given work around for 10g on words....

      is there any another alternate...

          You haven't posted the alternatives you have tried or what work around by Oracle you are talking about.

          "Cause: A DISTINCT, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, or SET operation requires a
          sort key longer than that supported by ORACLE. Either too many columns
          or too many group functions were specified in the SELECT statement.

          Action: Reduce the number of columns or group functions involved in
          the operation."

            I don't believe you are running Oracle 7.3 on linux.
