Hi,1 person found this helpful
Use configure retention policy to recovery window of n days in RMAN or use Keep forever command with your backup scripts.
I can't use keep forever cause we dont have recory catalog,
& setting the recovery window to n days, will it work?
as we the RMAN information will be stored in control file of local database so will it be stored for n days,
A way will be copy this backup in another place, when you need it just "catalog start with '../.../../yourbackup';"1 person found this helpful
Assuming this is a once off requirement, it is just a case of taking a cold backup of the database including the controlfile and any archivelogs and then storing these offline.1 person found this helpful
A copy of the pfile as well as a text copy of the controlfile (backup controlfile to trace) should also be taken.
As long as you have all of this , it should be possible to restore/recover your database to the start point.
the size of controlfile is limited to 250 MB.
If you have more backups older information will be overwritten.
If controfile is so big restore and recovery will last very long as RMAN reads the whole information.
therefore use rman repository :)
