11.5.9.2 to 12.1.1 Upgrade taking long time at  GMIG3MIC.sql

Hi,

We are upgrading 11.5.9.2 to 12.1.1. The American English Upgrade driver patch taking
long time at INVG1MIM.sql and GMIG3MIC.sql scripts, we have 2 processors and the no of workers are 4.

For INVG1MIM.sq it has taken nearly 9 hours time to complete. Now again for GMI also it is running from past 6 hours.

Is there any pre-install patch to improve the performance?

Please check below worker details.

All workers are showing running status.

For INV script they took 9 hours, now from past 7 hours GMI scripts are running.

If you have license to use AWR, pl run an AWR report to see why this is taking so long to run.

Is archiving turned off and SGA temporarily increased for the patching activity ? Is this your first attempt at the upgrade ? If not, how long did these scripts run in previous attempts ?

    Thanks,
Did you apply all the patches in (Oracle E-Business Suite Pre-install Patches Report [Video] [ID 1448102.1])?

    Thanks,

Can you post the last 15-20 lines of the workers where those scripts are running?

Have you tried to bounce the database and continue with the patch and see if this helps?

    Thanks,

    Hi Hussein,

It took 12 hours at that stage and now still 3500 jobs left.

This is the first run of upgrade.
I did not apply any patches as per m note Oracle E-Business Suite Pre-install Patches Report [Video] [ID 1448102.1].
Is this is the main issue causing performance issue?

Can we bounce the database in the middle? If so do we need to set the worker status to Failed before bouncing?
My SGA size is 1G. Is it causing the performance issue?

We have 2 processors, can i sue the workers as 8?
Is there any chance to increase the workers in the middle of the patch?

When the patch starts the compilation of objects, can i run the adutlrp.sql manually from another session to speed up the patch?

After this i need to apply NLS patch, please suggest any pre-install patches for this also.

    Thanks,

It could be related and you must apply those preinstall patches before you run the main upgrade patch driver.

    Yes.

1 GB is small -- How much memory you have on the server?
We have 2 processors, can i sue the workers as 8?
With 2 CPUs, I would suggest you use 3-4 workers.

How Does Adpatch Determine The Number Of Workers To Recommend? [ID 800024.1]
Is there any chance to increase the workers in the middle of the patch?
No, you have to restart it from the beginning.
When the patch starts the compilation of objects, can i run the adutlrp.sql manually from another session to speed up the patch?
Yes, but you cannot apply any other patch at the same time as the other patch driver may fail. So, wait until the compilation of all invalid objects is done then apply the next patch.
After this i need to apply NLS patch, please suggest any pre-install patches for this also.

Thank you so much Hussein for your quick reply.
Your suggestions are very valuable for me, i was able to solve so many issues with your help.

After completion of this i will apply 8576725 patch and then nls patch.
The nls patch also takes the same time like American English patch?

    We have 4G memory.

    Thanks,

No, it should take less time than the US patch.
    We have 4G memory.
If you can increase the SGA size to 2 GB, this would help. Please note that R12 requires at least 4-6 GB of memory (excluding the OS memory requirements).

    Thanks,
    Hussein
