    Upgrading dataguard database

I administer a dataguard database, and I plan to make an upgrade of that database very soon.

      The version used is now:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release - Prod
      PL/SQL Release - Production
      CORE Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version - Production
      NLSRTL Version - Production

I have as choice to apply the patch 49P [as explained in the Note 342443.1] 32-Bit Patch:13928775, or apply the patch.

The problems I list with the version are:
      - the dbconsole is not secured
      - Bug 6347745: 10204/WIN: 10106 WINDOWS OMS ..DISK UTILIZATION SHOWS > THAN 100%

Should I proceed directly with the patch or not?

      Second question:
I have printed the two readme and read all two carefully.
How should I proceed for the dataguard?
Stopping the primary, making the upgrade as noted in the readme file, relaunching the primary database ?
Stopping the second server, making the upgrade as noted in the readme file, relaunching the standby database?

Thanks for help, I will do the upgrade on the next few days

          Hello Christian,

I have in-depth notes about [url http://ora00600.com/articles/data-guard-physical-standby-upgrade.html]upgrading from 10g to 11g with a physical standby database, which details exactly how I did it. And I also have written a [url http://www.ora00600.com/articles/10g-to-11g-database-upgrade.html]step-by-step oracle 10g to 11g upgrade guide

Are you just updating the standby DBs? Are they physical or logical? With a physical standby you can't upgrade it without upgrading the primary DB, because it's an identical copy, unless there is a way that I don't know of?

Also, personal opinion, why are you going to and not up to 11g? 10g is out of support and if you are taking the time to make an upgrade you might as well go up the a newer version because you will just have to upgrade to 11 in the end anyway.

          Hope that helps,

Regarding upgrading a datagabase with physical standby in place

Do you use dataguard broker ?
