    R12.1.3 db upgrade

    user6445925
      I am looking to apply some updates to my 12.1.3 config running on Linux RH5.
      Similar to this thread I found Re: EBS Database upgrade to 11.2.0.3 however I am going from 11207 to 11203.
      So I'm looking at ID 1058763.1 and on page 2 "Verify the software versions" so when I see references to 12.1 does that still apply to 12.1.3?
      Some of the patches look like Windows server also (ie. 11071569).

          Do you mean 11.1.0.7 to 11.2.0.3?

          Yes.

          You can skip/ignore Windows patches since you are on Linux.

          Thanks,

            Doh, yes 11.1.0.7 (typo).
            So for example as I review the notes I have a few to apply and some to skip *[my notes inserted in the brackets]*.
            Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 [is patch 7303030 which is applied - so skip]
            11g Release 2 interoperability patch for Release 12.1 (9062910) [not applied]
            12.1 TXK Delta 3 patch (8919489) [superseded by 9239090 which is applied - so skip]
            9868229 [not applied]
            10163753 [not applied]
            11071569 [Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) support so skip]

            Then under the Autoconfig section:
            apply patches 9738085 [looks like a windows patch to me - skip]
            and 9852070 [looks like HP-UX - skip]
            Followed by:
            Apply patch 12686610 (for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 and 12.1) [this I will apply]

            Is this all still a manual process to go through and record say in an xls file or is there any automation tool I am mssing out on here.

              No problem :)
              Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 [is patch 7303030 which is applied - so skip]
              Correct.
              11g Release 2 interoperability patch for Release 12.1 (9062910) [not applied]
              You need to apply it.
              12.1 TXK Delta 3 patch (8919489) [superseded by 9239090 which is applied - so skip]
              Correct.
              9868229 [not applied]
              10163753 [not applied]
              Apply both.
              11071569 [Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) support so skip]
              Correct.
              Then under the Autoconfig section:
              apply patches 9738085 [looks like a windows patch to me - skip]
              Correct.
              and 9852070 [looks like HP-UX - skip]
              It is a generic patch, so I would say you need to apply it.
              Followed by:
              Apply patch 12686610 (for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 and 12.1) [this I will apply]
              Correct.

              It is manual, and there is no automation tool for this upgrade.

              Thanks,
              Hussein

                Thanks Hussein,

                ok so I'll follow through this Support Guide and possibly have another question before I close this post and I don't want to send this thread on another tangent but the next thing I would do would be to apply the latest CPU or PSU if that was part of my overall plan right? Then the mid-tier and app itself could be patched as well.

                    As I follow through on the guide ID 1058763.1 I have a question about applying the 11.2.0.3 RDBMS patches.
                    The first patch 4247037 says to apply it via opatch - ok done, but the readme then has a section called "Patch Special Instructions:" which says to run a script 'catmgdidcode'. Now how would I do this against my 11.1.0.7 db when running this out of my new 11.2.0.3 Home?
                    Doesn't make sense to me.

                      The doc clealry states --> "Do not run any of the post install instructions as those will be done after the upgrade.".

                      So, once you finish the upgrade you can run this script (if required) on top of 11.2.0.3 ORACLE_HOME.

                      Thanks,
                      Hussein

                        Ahhhh, right you are as usual. I wish it stated that at the start of the Step instead of at the end though...

                            Now I know and hopefully I will remember...

                            At any rate almost there I think but just have a question about autoconfig now.
                            Patch 9852070 has me create and then copy over appsutil.zip to the DB node and uncompress it.
                            So I now have an appsutil subdirectory in my $ORACLE_HOME but no scripts folder where I would run adautocfg.sh from?
                            Just these:
                            bin html java media perl sql template

                            Did I miss something again?
                            The appsutil.zip file I found was under $INST_TOP/admin/out vs $APPL_TOP/admin/out which I assumed was a typo in the README.

                                Context File Creation on UNIX
                                $ cd $ORACLE_HOME

                                $ . <SID>_<HOST>.env <-- this I don't have yet

                                $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin

                                $ perl adbldxml.pl tier=db appsuser=<APPSuser> appspasswd=<APPSpwd> <-- syntax appears to be incorrect for R12 but ok (no tier= option)

                                $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin

                                $ adconfig.sh contextfile=<CONTEXT> appspass=<APPSpwd>

                                End result is contextfile was built which allowed me to create scripts subdirectory, run adautocfg and I now finally have a newly built <SID>_<HOST>.env file.

                                So thanks Hussein!

                                I will close this call shortly if all completes from here :o)

                                    Almost there.
                                    All good except when I happened to check autoconfig I see it still shows old 11.1 database context file entry and my new 11.2 file.
                                    In the 11i world you pointed me to "How to Clean Nonexistent Nodes or IP Addresses From FND_NODES [ID 260887.1]" but that file seems to be for 11i.
                                    Do I still need to apply that patch [9535311] in R12 and then EXEC FND_CONC_CLONE.SETUP_CLEAN;?

                                    Here's my fnd_Nodes output (not sure how it's supposed to look):
