We have 8TB database to be upgraded from 10.2.0.5 Solaris to 184.108.40.206 AIX. Both platform are big endian. We are dd the files from solaris to aix using dd and then invoke RMAN convert to convert solaris files and aix files, but the convert took too long and out of our maintenance window. I was reading a note void Datafile Conversion during Transportable Database [Document 732053.1] . It said that only UNDO tablespace files need to be converted. Can anybody confirm it and any restraction to apply?
Only datafiles that contact undo information, needs conversion considering both platforms are big endians.
The restrictions are
1) The target database should not contain a tablespace with the same name as in the source database. But you can always rename the source or target tablesspace
2) Also the source and target database be of the same character set.
