          Show us the contents of your hosts file.

          By definition, 'localhost' IS 127.0.0.1.

          Out of the box, a Windows hosts file has this to say about localhost:
          # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
          #     127.0.0.1       localhost
          #     ::1             localhost

            Pl identify exact versions of "11g" and OS. Pl elaborate on what changes you made to the host file. What does "cannot able to connect to database through RCU" mean ? Where are you running the RCU from ? What error messages/codes do you get ? Pl use cut and paste to show how you are trying to connect and the complete error message.

            127.0.0.1 and localhost are synonymous - does ping return 10.10.10.10 because of your changes to the host file ?

                Hello Srini,
                I installed oracle db 11.2.0.1.0. I am using windows 7 32 bit OS..

                before installing the OBIEE 11g i need to create two repositry name like DEV_BIPLATFORM and DEV_MDS.. to create this two schema i use the RCU tool..

                this is the error message i am getting while i am running the RCU.

                "Unable to connect to the database using the provided details.
                Please enter a valid hostname and port or check if the listener is up and running."

                Thanks for your time..

                  Were the changes to the hosts file made after the database software was installed and the database created ? Are you running the RCU utility on the same computer as the database, or from a different computer/server ? If the former, pl undo the changes made to the hosts file and try again

                    Hello Srini,
                    I made the host file changes first and then i installed the oracle database. I am running the RCU on the same laptop..

                    Thanks

                      Pl identify which edition of Windows you are using. Stop the listener, edit the listener.ora file, replace 127.0.0.1 with 10.10.10.10, and restart the listener - I am not sure where the listener picked up the 127.0.0.1 value if the hosts file wad changed before the oracle install. Is the RCU in a separate ORACLE_HOME ? Does this ORACLE_HOME have a tnsnames.ora file that will need to be edited to include the connect details for the database/HOME you have installed ?
