I guess you are using JInit with IE8 with most certainly will cause the browser to crash. See here on how to configure the JPI: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/documentation/forms-jre-131772.pdf
As for the linux installation;
Download the java runtime from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre6u38-downloads-1877409.html
(if you are on a RedHat based distro which includes Oracle Linux you could use the rpm.bin package) and install it.
for the plugin registration with firefox you maybe need to do this in addition: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/manual-plugin-install-linux-136395.html

I have done something that has caused the IE8 browser to stop interacting with the run form command.Have you tried clearing the browser and Java cache (temporary files)? This is always the first thing I do when there is a problem on the client.
As to your question:
Also on the Linux PC i run Firefox i need guidance on the installation of Java so that I can run forms on that PC too.I am not a Linux guy, but I did find this article via Google: how to install the java plugin in firefox.
Hope it helps.
