Single-node 188.8.131.52/184.108.40.206 on Solaris 8 (64-bit capable, although the RDBMS binaries are 32-bit)All the steps are OK.
The plan is to upgrade first to R12.1.1, and then to apply the R12.1.3 RUP. For the first iteration, the main steps would be:
1. Clone current environment to new one, running Solaris 10 (64-bit).
2. Run preparatory steps.
3. Upgrade RDBMS to 10.2.0.4 (64-bit), including OLAP conversion steps.
4. Complete R12.1.1 upgrade.
5. Apply R12.1.3. RUP
6. Post-update steps (patching, etc.)
We'd like to upgrade to RDBMS 11gR2, but we're not sure if our timeframe will allow us to do that.Correct. 10.2.0.4 is not certified on Solaris 10 (64-bit) and it is only certified on Solaris 9 (64-bit). For 12.1.3 with 10.2.0.4, it is certified.
So, for now, the target environment would be: Single-node 10.2.0.4/R12.1.3 on Solaris 10 (64-bit).
Now, what worries me is that, from what I've seen on MOS, R12.1.3 is NOT certified with RDBMS 10.2.0.4 on Solaris SPARC 64-bit. Intriguing, since R12.1.1 IS certified with that very same combination of RDBMS/OS. I haven't read anywhere that 10.2.0.4 is not supported for R12.1.3 (at least the README doesn't say it).
-will it be possible, during R12 downtime, to upgrade first to 10.2.0.4 and then to 11g, and then complete the R12 upgrade, all the way up to R12.1.3?No. You need to upgrade to R12 first, then upgrade the database to 11gR2
-I've read that 10.2.0.5 is NOT certified with 11.5.9.x, but being this an R12 upgrade, could we upgrade the RDBMS to that release, instead of 10.2.0.4? 10.2.0.5 IS certified with both R12.1.1 and R12.1.3 on SPARC Solaris 64-bit.10.2.0.5 is not certified with 11.5.9 CU2 and you cannot upgrade to this database version.
If you have any comments/suggetions on our upgrade steps, please share them with me.

Hi Hussein, do you have any ideas on why 12.1.3/10.2.0.4/Solaris 10 is not a certified combination, even though 12.1.1/10.2.0.4/Solaris 10 is? I can't find any information regarding it.
One other thing: this customer has no ATG family packs applied, do you consider +11i.ATG.H.RUP.7+ would have any postive impact on the upgrade? It does not matter. I did upgrade from 11i (on ATG RUP 6) to R12 with no issues.
