To add extra information to the issue -
The variable I am trying to insert in the form is actually a range variable which marks the open periods for forecast. For instance, the variable might looks like this -
&Range = FY12->DEC,FY13->MAR

Pardon me if I am wrong, but we can't use cross dimensional operator in Planning web form.
If you want to use web form for forecasting, you can control the periods locking by using scenario dimension's start period and end period property.
Yes, you can't use cross dimension operator in web form. Even in calculation script you can't use it in fix statment.1 person found this helpful
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Are you trying to use the range to display a certain set of columns on the form, or do you simply want to display the sum of "FY12"->"Dec":"FY13"->"Mar"? In other words, do you want the individual periods to show up as separate colums (or rows), or just one column/row containing the sum?1 person found this helpful
Ok.. that kinda answers my question. But its funny that the error message that the form give is something like "The variable is not defined." Could have used a better error message but Oracle is known for their ambiguous error messages.. So I'll let that slip by.
Anyways, Thanks for your responses.
Jake: I want to display only the open months for forecast instead of displaying all the months in FY12 and FY13.
Gotcha. Unfortunately, the only way I could see this working is by creating an alternate hierarchy in your Period dimension (that contains only forecast periods), and driving the forms off of that. As others have stated, you cannot use ranges (via a variable, or otherwise) in the form definition. You CAN use attribute dimensions, however those only work on Sparse dimensions.1 person found this helpful
EDIT - Now that I think about it, you would need two alternate hierarchies. 1) Forecast periods in Current Year 2) Forecast periods in Next Year.
