DB versions: 11.2.0.2, 11.2.0.3
Platform : RHEL 6, Solaris 10

We have 5 physical Standby setups in our shop and I have managed it from sql*plus for the last 2 years. I am not a data guard expert but I have fixed occasional issues and did some switchovers as a part of DR drills. Never had to use DataGuard Broker.

Is it good to know Dataguard Broker ?

Any important things that can be done only from Dataguard Broker ?

    Hello;

    Is it good to know Dataguard Broker ?

    Yes. You can manage more databases faster with broker. Switchover and failover are faster. More database information is available faster.

    Benefits of Data Guard Broker

    You should be able to do everything thing you need to do from SQL Plus if needed. Some of the automatic features will need broker.
