How unallocated space of hard drive can be used as raw device to install asm?
let us say we have hard drive of 100GB among which i have created partitions of 50 GB
and installed Red hat linux,
and remaining 50gb hard disk is not touched ie unallocated, so i would like to use this unallocated
space to be used as raw device by Operating System in order to install and configure ASM, please suggest..
DB :11G R2, OS RHEL 5.8
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the update, but the link says "Note. Using ASMLib with NFS is not supported,
so only do this if you want to play around with ASMLib. Definitely don't use it for something important." ...
we need to install using asmlib, please suggest..
The high level steps are:
1. install ASMLIB
2. use ASMLIB to create ASM disk from raw device /dev/sdaX
3. install Grid Infrastructure software
4. create ASM instance
5. create ASM diskgroup using ASM disks configured in ASM instance
You should find all details in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/oraclerestart.htm#CIHCBGCC.
