    Obiee 11g Chart sorting issue

    986359
      Hi All,

I am trying to plot a graph in OBIEE 11g answers which shows Calendar Month in X-axis and percentage of marks in Y-axis,
in such a way that Calendar Month in X-axis should be in the order Jan Feb Mar Apr .....(where as now it is Apr Aug Feb ... which is sorted in ascending order) Calender month is a calculated column in the report which has the following calculation
      case when cal_month=1 then 'Jan'
      case when cal_month=2 then 'Feb'
      .
      .
      .
      .
      case when cal_month=12 then 'Dec'
How do i arrange the calendar month in a proper order of Jan Feb Mar .....

      Please advise

      Thanks,
      LonaD

          Set this property:
Logical Column Properties->General Tab->Sort order column

You may use column W_MONTH_D.CAL_MONTH so that all months are ordered by Calendar

          Mark if helps

Hi Srini... Thanks for ur quick reply, but i have a doubt on it.

I have a col with name cal month which is used in the calculation of the Calender month col. cal month has the data 1,2,3....12.
Where as the column Calender month has the calculation i already mentioned. Now if i use the cal month column in my report the graph looks good, but i don't want 1,2..12 in the graph instead i want jan, feb .. dec. The solution which u told will work only if the col Calender month is also in RPD right? Plz correct me i have understood u wrongly.

            Please help!!!

Yes, you are right, you have to set that in RPD.

Can you try this; Since you have column values 1 to 12, for that column in Criteria->Column Properties-> Data Type set monthName.
I think that should help you.

thanks once again.. but tell me one thing which RPD col i need to add this? Is that to the cal month column which has the data 1.2,..12?

I've already mentioned OOB column to use, I'm not sure about your data. If you dont have it then might go for workaround to get number 1 to 12.

BTW:Existing column 'Col month' as referred is not helping you?

For ex: work around might be something like
                  cast(substring("Year",3,2) as int)

                  Mark if helps

you can create same in rpd so that you can sort it._
Or else can go with work around using year column as above_

Month column is used for reporting which is calculated column of Col_month in answers. This Month field is not there in the rpd. So how do i achieve sort column in rpd level.
or do we have to do something in answers?

                    Thanks,
