    Hi,

    TNS-12535 is network issue.
    Can you reach "138.141.10.5:1531" via any protocol?

    This error is often caused by Firewall..

    Regards,

    actually be this
    (Port = 1521)

    Check if fire wall is blocking your connection on the server

    Please open sqlplus , try connecting with service name and post the ouput here.(sqlplus <usename>/<passowrd>@service

    I have no Windows Firewall because the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service is not running.

    SQL> conn <usename>/<passowrd>@atdmpqa
    ERROR:
    ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred

    I suspect the entry in the tnsnames wasn't correct. But I just cannot figure out what was the issue.

    The most common cause for TIMEOUT is due to FireWall on or between Client & DB Server

    Can you check on the server (where your database is running) if firewall is enabled or antivirus sometimes

    What happens when you connect(with service name) from the database server with the same tns entry

    Are you able to connect to the database from any other machines?

    Hi yoonus

    1. Firewall is not running... Guess there is no antivirus (cannot confirm now)
    [root@ATDMP1 ~]# service iptables status
    Firewall is stopped.
    [root@ATDMP1 ~]#

    2. This is the tns entry in the linux server(where ATDMPQA database is running)
    [atdmp@ATDMP1 /etc]$ cat tnsnames.ora
    ATDMP1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL= TCP)
    (HOST= 138.141.10.5)
    (Port= 1531)
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = ATDMP)
    )
    )

    [atdmp@ATDMP1 ~]$ tnsping atdmp1

    OK (0 msec)
    [atdmp@ATDMP1 ~]$

    3. Yes, actually I can connect from other machines except that 10g DB.

    This is from my client terminal..

    This shows that your listener is listening on port 1521, but your tns entry at the top of the thread is going to port 1531. I did raise this possibility back on Tuesday :)
