    RFS process in data guard

    Chanchal Wankhade
      Hi All,

      I was creating DR for my primary database and after completing whole activity i found that the RFS process is not running on DR Database.
      I check and found nothing wrong.

      My question is what parameter makes RFS process Run?

      Thanks.

            Hi,

            On primary no error of any clue and on standby its only says standby database mounted.

              In the absence of complete Oracle Version and OS information as well as in what mode your standby db is running i.e. (Maximum protection/performance/availability mode), I google for the the issue and found couple of reasons for not working RFS :

              on primary:

              1.log_archive_dest_x may be changed
              2.log_archive_dest_state_x may be deferred
              3.tns entry pointing the standby may be changed etc.
              4.changed SYS password
              5.Firewall blocking 1521 port
              My question is what parameter makes RFS process Run?
              RFS is background process on standby side which receives the redo data and writes it to a Standby Redo Log (SRL). RFS sends an acknowledgement back to the production database that the redo has been received and written to disk. When the production database receives this acknowledgement, it acknowledges the commit to the client application and processes the next transaction.

                Where is the proof?
                Have you started MRP?
                Post the output of below query and these numbers much related with log_archive_max_processes
                SQL> select thread#,PROCESS, STATUS, THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, BLOCK#, BLOCKS FROM V$MANAGED_STANDBY where process='RFS';

                  Alter Database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;

                  The above command will start the RFS background process and run in the standby database sqlplus.

                  Check whether RFS is running or what is the status of RFS using below,

                  In OS,

                  ps -ef|grep rfs

                  In Standby DB,

                  Select process,client_process,status from v$managed_standby where process='RFS';
