    simple csv advice

    user13328581
      hello expert;

      I have a csv with the following columns:
      ID   color date_required
      1    Red   1/23/2013
      2    Blue    2/14/2013
      I need to import the csv to a table with the following columns
      ID  Color Color_Code  Date_required
      1   Red    A               1/23/2013
      2   Blue    B               2/14/2013
      Kindly note, the color_code will be gotten from another table using a similar select statement below

      select code from tbl_color_code where color = 'A'

      hence what it the best way to do the bulk import.

      All advice is welcomed. My front-end is asp.net by the way

          use EXTERNAL TABLE to map the *CSV file into Oracle DB

            Sql Developer can import that for you and it's free. So if you are already using it and it's a one-time op just use the tool.

            If the file is on the client you need to use a tool or sql*plus. If the file is on the server you can use an external table.
