    Thanks Srini... Beautiful explanation!!!

So, can we say like this- An Oracle Instance can have multiple Databases but a Database can be linked(mounted) only to 1 Instance at a time ??

Not quite - each database is associated with at least one instance. If you have only once instance, it would be considered a standard/normal install. If you have multiple instances associated with a single database, then you have a RAC install

Again, +STARTUP Mount+ starts an Instance with DB Mounted or Not, respectively. Also, like commands - +SHUTDOWN [Immediate]+ closes (dis-mounts) a DB connection (but Instance still runs) .
But, there's a service - OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener which is not effected with any of above commands. I find them everytime started automatically with my OS.

What are these services part of?? Who starts an Instance?

OracleServiceXE = is the service starting your database automatically
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25789/process.htm#i7241

OracleXETNSListener = This is the listener (that you start with lsnrctl on command line)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/win.111/b32010/glossary.htm#i432300

    ORA_SID_AUTOSTART
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/win.111/b32010/ap_unix.htm#i634279

Check the parameter in your registry
    start>run>regedit>find ORA_XE_AUTOSTART
