At a high level, you will need to

          1. Download and install (which is a full install) into a new ORACLE_HOME

          2. Apply the latest PSU patch to

          3. Upgrade the database following the steps in the Upgrade Guide (using DBUA)

I am following the steps that you have mentioned in here using DBUA. There is one more while upgrading the oracle database, Oracle is asking me to turn off the archive log mode of the database. Do I have to trun off the archive log mode or I have to keep it as it is.

One more thing. which is the most preferred method for upgrading in case of a averages size of database.

It is recommended to turn off archivelog mode for the duration of the upgrade, but it is not required.

                  DBUA is the recommended/preferred method - what is your definition of 'average' ? 10Gb ? 10Tb ? 10Pb ?

                    Hi Srini,

I agree average is a vague term to use as the DB size varies randomly.

BTW, the time taken to upgrade does not depend on the size of the database.
