Clone DB to a new Server

    989732
      Hi,

I'm trying to clone our old server with a Oracle database to a new computer. But I can't get our ERP system running because the database is not working somehow. Unfortunately my database knowledge is quite limited.

Actually I cloned the whole system but maybe something went wrong with copying the database. In the original system I opened the "Adminstration Assistent for Windows", stopped the database service by right click and copied the files to the new server.

When I start the ERP system it says "Oracle 8 Error: ORA-01033: Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress".

Any help would really be appreciated.

      Thanks

      Oliver

You should check the database service to see if it started properly, and check the database alert log to see if there are any errors during starting.

Try to login and select open_mode from v$database.

I checked the log "alert_prod.log" and there are no obvious errors.
I uploaded the file here https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=36974D664E665046!11357&authkey=!ADPJ1_GyLxVS9MY

Datebase services seem to be started

I'm not sure where/how to login and select open_mode from v$database.

Maybe you could give me a brief explanation.

depending upon your definition of "obvious"
              00214, 00000, "control file '%s' version %s inconsistent with file '%s' version %s"
// *Cause: An inconsistent set of control files, datafiles/logfiles, and redo
              //         files was used.
// *Action: Use a consistant set of control files, datafiles/logfiles, and redo
//         log files. That is, all the files must be for the same database
//         and from the same time period.
Oracle Data Guard is not available in this edition of Oracle.
you can't get there from here.

I can't access that alert log.
You may also want to check to confirm that you are connecting to the right server/port/sid
To login to the database from the server you would need to set ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID etc, then use sqlplus

Ok I was able to properly shutdown the database and startup and mount it again.
