Is this page relevant to your query...
where can we record the number of dependents an employee has.
You could use a DFF or EIT? (depending on whether or not you want it date tracked, etc).
I don't believe there's any such field seeded in UK Leg, there may be where you are - the administration doc from Oracle may have clues.

The contact relationship table PER_CONTACT_RELATIONSHIPS already provides you with this functionality. Set DEPENDENT_FLAG to 'Y', then query for all contacts where this flag is set - there is your number of dependants.
Edited to add: There's no DB item to give you the count of dependents, but you could easily write a user-defined function for use in a formula that would return the result of the query

Clive many thanx..
could u pls. let me know the navigation from the front end where we can set the DEPENDENT_FLAG to yes... there must be a check box i believe.
Go to the contact for the employee Person -> Others -> Contact
Then in the bottom block where you define the relationship details, drag the scroll bar across to the right, and you'll see 'Dependent' as a check box, with a bunch of other check-boxes.
Enter&Maintain Screen - Query employee number -- and click on others - select Contact
In that in below Contact Relationship section u can find this flag ..Hope this helps
