could anyone tell me how to connect forms 6i to mysql without involving oracle database?
let say i have installed oracle developer 2000, and install mysql 5.0,
i open the form builder, click on connect,,
what should i provide here.
i tried creating odbc driver named MYSQL and try to connect like below
but it give error ORA-03121-No interface driver connected, function not performed.
what to do?
What you are asking is not possible. Oracle Forms was designed to specifically interact with the Oracle Database. You can access other database tables through an Oracle Database using Oracle Heterogeneous Services, but straight ODBC is no longer supported.
so the alternate is to install oracle express edition, create a db link to mysql to avoid licensing problem?
my client is insisting for free database.
or the alternate i have to learn java etc to develop such an application which could directly connect to mysql?
java is tuff man, i work around only in oracle developer suites.
I'm not quite sure if you avoid licensing problems when you provide a Forms 6i runtime. You should ask your Oracle Sales representative if you are still allowed to provide it for without licensing costs.
If you are not allowed to use an Oracle-database, i would use a different tool for application development. Maybe an Oracle XE-database in combination with an APEX-application is an alternative approach?
yes Andreas Weiden ,
and in the xe database, i will create a database link to my sql, and the end user must contain both the oracle xe database and mysql.
it means we need to learn another tool for development if we want to skip oracle database to be in touch with our applications.
i am thinking about asp.net using c#.
Thank you so so much.
