Hi all,

For setting up standby database, (linux) I need to ssh to both ways to oracle users wihtout password? Or one way only from primary to standby database.

Thanks,

Yxz

    That is not a requirement.
User equivalency (ssh without password) is requirement for RAC installation.

    That is applicable for RAC,
For dataguard/standby always there will be authentication took place even by password file. You have to take care of it
you can copy and rename password on standby system.

    Hi,

ssh is working for oracle user between primary and standby.

you are talking about Real Application cluster In data guard no need to do that.

    I thank you all :)

I am referring to manual or dataguard standby setup.

Supposing the primary server failed and I switch to the standby db where in all the apps users will be directed too.
Is the IP address of the primary server be taken by the standby server? How can the apps connect if the IP is not taken over too? :(

    you have two options :

    a) use connect time failover (you can use a directory, you do NOT need to maintain
tnsnames.ora files on every client, you CAN centralize this) in the tns connect entry.
In your case, yes, this would mean changing the tnsnames.ora file if you persist in
keeping a copy on every client machine.

    b) take over the production IP address (change DNS). This takes time to propagate.

When primary server failed, then dont use word of "switch", you have to say it as "failover".
You have to use oracle net service name of standby, Actually they were pointing to old primary.
So specifically you no need to change from the database server.

    But Sb said:

Does this mean it is transparent and I do not change anything?
