Dg Parameters

Hi,

What is the difference between log_Archive_dest_2 and log_Archive_config in oracle 11g?

Log_Archive_dest_2 : send a log to standby by service.

I read the below document,
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B12037_01/server.101/b10755/initparams099.htm.

If not specify log_Archive_config,what happened? Is shipping stopped to standby?

LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_n is enabling archive to local/remote.So why we need to set log_Archive_config again?

Thanks

    Hello;

    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n - where the redo data is to be archived on the primary and standby systems.

    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG - enables the database to send and receive redo.

    If not specify log_Archive_config,what happened? The default value should handle it. ( SEND, RECEIVE, NODG_CONFIG ).
    By default, the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG parameter enables the database to send and receive redo.

    Is shipping stopped to standby? No.

    So why we need to set log_Archive_config again?

    Recommended, but not required for Data Guard. To identify the DB_UNIQUE_NAME for the primary
    database and each standby database in the Data Guard configuration.

    Hi,
    By default, the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG parameter enables the database to send and receive redo.
    For Ex :
    Primary unique name : db1
    First standby unique name : stby1
    Second standby unique name : stby2

    Could i set parameter like below

    Primary : LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG='DG_CONFIG=(stby1,stby2)

    First Stby:LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG='DG_CONFIG=(db1)

    Second Stby:LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG='DG_CONFIG=(db1)

    Thanks

    Hello;

    I won't set it like that, I would do this :

    Primary
    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG= 'DG_CONFIG=(db1,stby1,stby2)'

    First Standby

    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG= 'DG_CONFIG=(db1,stby1,stby2)'

    Second Standby

    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG= 'DG_CONFIG=(db1,stby1,stby2)'

    Best Regards

    Hi,
    By default, the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG parameter enables the database to send and receive redo
    Send : sending redo from primary to stand by
    Receive : Receiving redo to stand by from primary

    Why don't we set the parameter like below? am i wrong?

    Primary
    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG=(send, 'DG_CONFIG= (stby1,stby2)')

    First Standby

    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG=(receive, 'DG_CONFIG=(db1)')

    Second Standby

    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG= (recieve,'DG_CONFIG=(db1)')

    Thanks

    Hi,

    I have mine set the same way the mseberg says. I think that's how it is in the documentation and I believe it's so that if you switch the primary and the standby then then can both be the primary and standby without you having to change the config. I could be wrong on that though...
