    Problem in select of xmltype table

      Hi,

      i have a xmltype table with an object type/atrribute of datatype CLOB. When i now do a query i get the error ORA-22835 - what's going wrong? The datatype of the source attribute and the declared variable is CLOB.

          The best place to post this is still the {forum:id=34} forum. Why are you posting here all of a sudden?

          What's the database version? (SELECT * FROM v$version)

          Is it possible you give a sample document to reproduce?

              In my understanding, the error comes from the combination of the xdb:SQLType="CLOB" annotation and xs:base64binary datatype declaration. They're incompatible.

              Within XML DB, xs:base64binary is natively mapped to SQL binary type, that is RAW or BLOB.
              So I would change all the annotations to xdb:SQLType="*BLOB*", or, if you want to keep a CLOB attribute, then define the elements as "xs:string".

              The advantage of annotating xs:base64binary with xdb:SQLType="BLOB" is that the conversion will be done automatically from base64 to BLOB when the file is loaded.

              However,

              You'll hit another issue when trying to query the BLOB with XQuery-based functions XMLTable or XMLQuery :
              SQL> SELECT pe.sign_id
                2  FROM fp_epass_pass_antraege pa
                3     , XMLTABLE(xmlnamespaces(default 'http://www.llv.li')
                4        ,'/PassAntrag/Person/SignID'
                5       PASSING pa.object_value

              ERROR:
              ORA-01486: size of array element is too large
              The only (bad) workaround I've found so far is to use the deprecated extractValue() function instead, it will return the whole BLOB without error :

                     , 'xmlns="http://www.llv.li"'
                     )
              from fp_epass_pass_antraege ;
              BTW, note the use of OBJECT_VALUE pseudocolumn to access the XMLType object.
              You should always use that too, SYS_NC_ROWINFO$ is an internal name that Oracle could change in the future without notice.

                I changed all the xs:base64binary annotations to xdb:SQLType="BLOB" and now i can query the base64binary elements :-)

                But now i have to decode the base64binary data. Do you have a good example for this task? And further is the base64 data influenced by the problem of the code conversion (UTF-8, ISO 8859-15)?
