    Error connecting foxpro ODBC with Oracle XE

    992079
      Hello,

      I'm trying comunicate Foxpro database with Oracle XE 11 and for details, the configurated listener.ora, tnsnames.ora and initsid.ora is listed on bottom topic.

      Well I guess I did a correct configuration, because I got some selects from empty tables. My problem is when I select any filled table...

      I'm receiving this error ... so I guess that error is somenthing about character returned from Oracle to Driver FOxPro but I'm not sure....

      I saw a lot of threads to check oracle_home/hs/log files, but it doesn't exist ! I tried create it but no one file is created there !

      I tried created on server... I tried created in client oracle... and i'm being crazy !

      Please, someone can give me a way to see this errors (logs)...

          Could you please select from one of these failing tables and post the gateway trace?

          In the gateway init file you already have turned on tracing (HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = debug) so have a look at C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs\trace where the trace files are located and find the mathing trace, then post it.

          Thanks,

            Thanks for reply,

            It's a problem for me, because I haven't trace past inside C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs.

            I just have admin and lib under hs. So, I tried look for whole oraclexe and subfolders using (*.trc). I just found some trc from C:\ORACLEXE\APP\ORACLE\diag\rdbms\xe\xe\trace\

            are there a limitation for oracle xe do not generate logs for HS ?

            Or.... there are a extra componente for generate log from that comunication ?

            I'm using windows 7 32 bits.

              Well, in the listener you state as Oracle_Home:
              (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server)
              So you then should have under that Oracle_home directory a bin directory which contains the gateway executable (dg4odbc.exe). In addition you then should have created your gateway init file initfpmatriz.ora in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\hs\admin.
              You state that you have the hs directory and a lib directory, but no trace. Could you please open a command line window and provide me the output of:
              dir C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin\dg4*.*
              and
              dir C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs

              The gateway trace is always written on Windows platforms to a trace directory within the hs directory - maybe it would make sense that you create it manually and check again.

              Thanks,
              Klaus

                I have exactly the same issue. I'm using 11g XE and can't get find the hs trace files. My ODBC link worked without any issues in 10g XE but I have been unable to get it to work under 11g XE with the dg4odbc so far.

                The result of the dir commands for me are:

                dir C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs
                Volume in drive C

                Directory of C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs

                02/06/2013 02:46 PM <DIR> lib

                C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0>dir C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin\dg4*.*
                Volume in drive C

                Directory of C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin

                08/27/2011 09:58 AM 835,584 dg4odbc.exe
                1 File(s) 835,584 bytes

                ...sorry, I don't mean to hijack the other person's post, I just thought I would share the fact that I seem to be having the same trace issue. How do we get the trace to work under 11g XE? The trace directory doesn't seem to exist.

                Thank you
                Francois

                  Hi,
                  What happens if you manually create a trace directory -

                  C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs\trace

                  Do you then get a trace file created if you set th etrace parameter -

                  HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=debug

                  Also, in his update it looks like Klaus made a mistake. He said -

                  "In addition you then should have created your gateway init file initfpmatriz.ora in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\hs\admin"

                  but the gateway init file should be in the directory -

                  C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs\admin

                  as the ORACLE_HOME is -

                  C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server

                  Regards,
                  Mike

                    worked for me to get the trace file to create once I manually added the C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\hs\trace directory as you suggested.

                      Francois,
                      Thanks for letting us know that creating the directory allowed the traces to be created. It will help with problem diagnosis.

                      Regards,
                      Mike

                            Hum..

                            I was reading log and saw .

                            Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]Invalid column number {07009}

                            There are a way to see what column numer it's trying ?

                              There are several issues visible in the trace file.

                              First of all the driver compatibility:
                              [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] O driver não oferece suporte à versão de comportamento de ODBC solicitada pelo aplicativo (consulte SQLSetEnvAttr). {01000}

                              DG4ODBC is now an ODBC level 3 compliant application and requires an ODBC level 3 compliant driver. Unfortunately the FoxPro ODBC driver DriverName:VFPODBC.DLL, DriverVer:06.86.0001 is not ODBC level 3 compliant and Microsoft didn't enhance the driver anymore.

                              To determine the root cause of [Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]Invalid column number {07009} we need to have a look at the ODBC trace file - maybe it just has to do that the driver misses an ODBC function. Same for the other 2 errors:
                              [Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]Descriptor type out of range {HY091}
                              [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Tipo de descritor fora do intervalo {HY091}

                              ODBC Tracinf is enabled on Windows in the ODBC Administrator. First let's check if there's an old ODBC trace file in %WINDIR%\temp, please delete the sql.log file if it exists. Then open the ODBC Administrator and click on Tracing Tab and enable MACHINE WIDE tracing. As the Gateway Listener is running in the LOCAl SYSTEM account you have to enable machine wide tracing and the ODBC trace file is always written to the %WINDOR%\temp directory - it is also always called sql.log.
                              So after you enabled ODBC tracing, please open a new SQL*Plus session and select again using the gateway. Once you got the error, please exit and check out if you find the sql.log file - post its content here. Then please do not forget to disable ODBC tracing again.

                                Realy it's make sence.

                                I'll try generate log, but just wondering, are there another driver compatible with oracle dblink to buy for foxpro ?

                                some tested for oracle.

                                  Oracle does not test/certify any foreign ODBC driver to be compatible with DG4ODBC.

                                  As far as I know there's no foreign ODBC driver for FoxPro and MS has already stopped ODBC support for FoxPro a long time ago.

                                    Ok Np.

                                    Thanks for help, you are the man.

                                    I'll change my application to oledb. I'll make a bridge to comunicate oracle x foxpro.
