    you say you cannot connect, but you also say the select hangs. If you can't connect, you can't issue a SELECT. Which problem are we dealing with?

    Any questions about compatibility with a particular OS are easily answered by checking the "software requirements" section of the relevant Installation Guide. You mention oracle 11.1 in the subject, but 11.2 in this message, And you mention Windows in the subject, but Centos in this message, so it is still not clear what you are doing with what. But just to cover both bases ...

    No, I started to give you the link directly, but this something you need to learn to do yourself. So ..
    1) go to tahiti.oracle.com
    2) locate the link for whatever version of Oracle you are dealing with. That link will take you to the complete documentation set for the selected product and version.
    3) Once at the version-specific documentation, locate the Installation Guide for your class of operating systems (Linux, Windows, etc.)
    4) Once you have opened the correct Installation Guide, read the section on Software Requirements. Pay close attention to the "Operating System Requirements". Do you see your specific operating system and version listed there?

    That said (and you really must do the above), I'd not expect running on an unsupported OS to cause a problem with a select on one specific table and no others. But you've given us nothing else. How about starting by showing us the actual query that is 'hanging'. PLEASE copy and paste it and PLEASE enclose it in the \
     tags.

    Well, other than the fact that centos is not a supported OS -- Oracle does NOT certify their products to run on Centos.

    Can you connect with sqlplus on the server and issue the SELECT? What happens?

    Please use sqlplus to connect to the databse from the specified client machine. Issue a DESCRIBE on the problem table. Issue a 'SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL;' . Issue a SELECT against the problem table. Copy the entire session and paste it into your next post, surrounded by the \

    Hi,

    I am seeing many spid for one session

    I have connected to oracle (linux) from a sqlplus (windows).

    from this idle session I get sid and serial#;

    now I logged in oracle server (linux) and see that there are 1 process to the one session ( in v$session)

    Is something wrong in this:
    STATUS          SID        PID    SERIAL#     AUDSID USERNAME                       OSUSER                         MACHINE                                                          TERMINAL                PROCESS                  SPID                     PROGRAM                                      EVENT

    1 row selected.
    Please use sqlplus to connect to the databse from the specified client machine. Issue a DESCRIBE on the problem table. Issue a 'SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL;' . Issue a SELECT against the problem table.
    sysdate from dual is coming fine.

    when i did desc schema.problem_table;
    its hangs......

    I have logged in server centos linux
