Thanks for your response. I am going through that link now.
But wanted to clarify that my need is not to open. but to just bring it back to sync and enable recovery.
My friend CKPT has an excellent note on this :

I've been following that note from Mr.CKPT always and it used to work. This time god knows what went wrong.
I had a look at the note and also i used this query :
this gave me a checkpoint_change# which was way beyond the expected. so i brought that particular datafile from prod and restored on BCP. it worked.
select to_char( CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#),FILE# from v$datafile_header order by 1 desc;
