    migrating 10g 32bits to 11g 64 bits

      dear all,

      i have oracle 10g Release on windows server 2003 service pack 2 (both are 32 bit).

      i have oracle 11g Release on window server 2012 (both are 64 bit)

      i want to move my 10g database to 11g.

      how to do this?

          How big is the database ? How much downtime can you afford ?

          One option would be export/import - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/expimp.htm#i262247

          You cannot upgrade directly (using scripts) unless you first patch the source database to - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/preup.htm#i1007814

            There are also some notes available on how to [url http://www.ora00600.com/articles/10g-to-11g-database-upgrade.html]upgrade from 10g to 11g which might come in handy for you.

            Hope this helps,

              hi srini,

              my database is not big enough, it is 3 gb.
              before reading your post, i already has taken the following steps.

              1.startup nomount the new 11g 64bit server.
              2.copy the OLD server control files to the NEW 11g server control files locations.
              3.alter database mount;
              4. copy OLD datafiles and redolog files to the NEW location.
              5.use alter database rename file to 'OLD FILE' to 'NEW FILE'; for all redo and datafiles.
              6.alter database open;
              it give the following error
              ora-01092: ORACLE instance terminated.Disconnection forced
              ora-00704:bootstrap process failure
              ora-39700: database must be opened with upgrade option

              then i search in google and do the following.
              7.startup upgrade;
              database is opened.

              now the problem is this my all schemas exists here, but when i want to connect to any of the schema using command CONN HR/HR it give the following error:
              ORA-only connect as sysdba is allowed when open in UPGRADE mode.
              when i try to issue the command with @ sign, like CONN HR/HR@ORCL it give the follwoing error
              ORA-12526: TNS: Listner all appropriate instances are in restricted mode.

              how to fix it?

                    hi srini,

                    i try the import export, there is a problem with it. it do not export ROLES.
                    i export HR schema, but when i try to import it, it says AD_ROLE does not exist.
                    AD_ROLES is one of the role i created.
                    the same error for all the roles.

                    how to completely export a schema with roles with everything?

                    i have a small database, and i could afford it.

                      Pl post the complete export and import commands used, along with the first 15 lines of the export and import logs.

                      You cannot copy over the database files to the target server and startup the database in upgrade mode and run the upgrade scripts unless your source database version has been patched to version
