This depends on which database you use for the backend.
For the front end to the client, you will need 443 (user name a password screen is always 443) and maybe 80 if you allow http access via the user browser.
For the database (check with your DBA) but normally:
MSSQL is 1433
Oracle is 1521
In addition the system needs msdtc to have access. This can be a little tricky as MSDTC out of the box expects not only TCP port 135 but also uses RPC dynamic port allocation. There is a way to configure MSDTC to use a specific dynamic port range.

Yes, it looks like they are using Microsoft SQL 2008 R2. DBA confirmed port 1433 needs to be opened.
That MSDTC link is exactly what I was looking for as well.
