I am curious why Java 7 64bit does not have an auto updater like Java 6. Considering there are still serious security vulnerabilities for outdated 64bit java versions, I can't imagine why Oracle would do this.
It has been auto-updating for me just fine. But you have to install it through java.com.
Note that "why" questions cant be answered here, you're not talking to oracle. We're all only users, just like you. We have to google for our answers about anything oracle, just like you.

Ah 64 bits, sorry I missed that little part. I can't judge on that one, I use Firefox which is 32 bits.
But the comment on answering "why" questions stands as it is. Nobody here can answer that, you'd have to ask the Oracle Java dev team. Good luck finding an email address for that.
