How are others doing this? Do you create linux accounts for others to scp onto the box? Samba (admins are frowning on this idea). Our users really want to be able to drag and drop to a windows share if possible.
Sure external tables .. but where to place the flat files? On the exadata nodes? if so do you create accounts and expect users to scp to them? We have a bunch of windows users who expect to just drag and drop files on a share and load them into Exa. Just looking for a convenient and secure way to do this.
You certainly dont want all of your company able to access those flat files while they sit on an open share.
If you're allowing perhaps less-technical users to perform their own data loads, you may want to consider some infrastructure around validating the submitted data, ensuring the users are authorized, keeping the users separate, and cleaning up the files. Perhaps a web-based file upload app, or something involving dbms_file_transfer?
