    Oracle Certification Retirement

    AK47
      Hi All,
I am planning to appear for Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Forms Developer exam 1Z0-151 but recently I come to know about Oracle exams retirement policy (ref: https://blogs.oracle.com/certification/entry/0864_01 ) according to which the certification exam 1z0-147 (which is one of the prerequisites to the Middleware exam) will expire after 31-July-2013. Will it be a good idea to give exam 1Z0-147 before the deadline or wait for new certification exam announcement, please suggest.

      Thanks in Advance.

          Well Spotted.

1z0-144 already exists as an alternative exam to 1z0-147 (and a possibly better one).

I may elaborate more when I have a little better time, but essentially this won't affect you too much.

( IMHO The key point of this announcement is the retirement of the 9i DBA OCP exam which might affect some people ... i will post more on this later ).

1Z0-144 was the better exam to take even before the retirement was announced. I wrote an article discussing the two here:

Yes, you can take 1z0-147 up to 31-jul-2013. (and even if you failed 1z0-147 on 31-jul-2013 you would be able to take and pass 1z0-144 on the 1-aug-2013 and get will get you your pl/sql oca). Matthew has covered the 1z0-144 : 1z0-147 topic differences above .... there is a difference and the difference needs to be planned for but it should not be an insurpassable mountain for most practioners; more like a small hill.

In essence you target certification is an 11g Forms OCP; Your pre-requisite is a PL/SQL OCA; obtainable via ( 1z0-144 or 1z0-147) and an SQL exam pass.

Lets me give some (extreme case) senarios .... the 1z0-007/1z0-147 retirement date being critical.

                Case 1:

                1z0-007 Passed 31-mar-2013
1z0-147 Passed 31-Jul-2013 :: A PL/SQL OCA will be awarded when processed by Oracle.
1z0-151 Passed 31-Aug-2013:: A Forms 11g OCP will be awarded when processed by Oracle.

                Case 2:

1z0-151 Passed 31-Mar-2013:: The Forms 11g OCP will not be awarded as not all pre-reqs have been met.
1z0-147 Passed 31-Jul-2013 :: The PL/SQL OCA will not be awarded as not all pre-reqs have been met.
1z0-051 Passed 31-Aug-2013 :: The PL/SQL OCA will be awarded as the pre-requisites are now met.
:: The Forms 11g OCP pre-reqs are also now met and that is awarded also.

                Case 3:

                1z0-007 Passed 31-Mar-2013
                1z0-147 Failed 31-Jul-2013
1z0-144 Passed 31-Aug-2013 :: The PL/SQL OCA will be awarded as the pre-requisites are now met.
1z0-151 Passed 30-Sep-2013:: A Forms 11g OCP will be awarded when processed by Oracle.

                Points to note on this:
                - Notice how exam passes before the july 31st deadline are counting towards certifications awarded after that date
                - I am 99.9% sure my understanding of this is accurate (but I have 20%+ chance of making a typo).
                - There is always a possibility Oracle may change their certification rules or practice. There is normally 3 months+ notice of this. An example here might be introduction of a mandatory training requirement for OCP for example (developers would probably revolt on this!).
                - ((The 9i DBA OCP Track is more complex than this and has additional more important considerations as there are essentially no post 31-july-2013 alternatives for those caught before end of track; I will cover than on a separate thread that I will create)).
