I have just downloaded Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 from edelivery.oracle.com. It contains 5 zip files which when unzipped gives me 5 .ISO image files.
Now, I have Oracle Virtual box VM software and would like to install Linux on my Windows 7 Home.
After I have created a Virtual drive using Virtual box, it asks for Linux Image file to start installing Linux. Now I have 5 linux ISO files, how should I go about installing the same on my machine - Im confused :(
The filenames - Enterprise-R5-GA-Server-x86_64-disc1.iso, Enterprise-R5-GA-Server-x86_64-disc2.iso, Enterprise-R5-GA-Server-x86_64-disc3.iso, Enterprise-R5-GA-Server-x86_64-disc4.iso and Enterprise-R5-GA-Server-x86_64-disc5.iso.
What you got, was EL 5 GA, that is the General Availability, or what we could say is 5.0
That version is from 2007.
You can do the install, use the disc1, those are 5 CDs, so when you start the installation, at some will ask, for cd2, cd3, it may not ask for cd4 or cd5, and if I remember correctly will ask cd1 at the end
After that, you will have to update and will download a bunch of files (from 2007 to 2013)
You may want to download 5.9 that 1 dvd and will be more close to what is today.
Before you get started you should check the hardware requirements. Your computer should have at 20 GB of free disk space and 4 GB of RAM. You will also need a x86-64 CPU with VT-x or AMD-V hardware virtualization support to be able to install a x64 guest OS.
I suggest you the latest version of the Oracle Linux x64 (x86-64) installation DVD, which is 5.9 or 6.4. You can download the disk image files from the Oracle e-delivery cloud or from the links mentioned in the previous response. You do not need any source DVD's. The installation DVD is about 3.5 GB and bootable. When your new virtual machine shows "FATAL: No bootable system found....", select the Devices pull-down menu and open the .ISO disk image file. Then reset the virtual machine and it should start from the DVD disk image.
Please note that VirtualBox issues are beyond the forum topic. Check http://forums.virtualbox.org. If you need help to install the Linux OS, I suggest to check the installation guide at https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/.
I downloaded the setup as mentioned above - Enterprise-R5-U9-Server-x86_64-dvd.iso.
Used it on VM box , Starup page appears , then the install gets halted saying below:-
NetLable : Initializing NetLabel: domain hash size=128 NetLabel: protocols = UNLABELED CIPSOV4 NetLabel: unlabled traffic allowed by default ACPI : DMAR not present PCI-GART: No AMD northbridge found. PCI: Ignore bogus resource 6[0:0] of 0000:00:02.0 NET: Registered protocol family2
Checked my BIOS settings, and Virtualization is Enabled.
Got below result upon running typing msinfo32.exe at run command :-
