    Issue with duplicate for standy

      I am trying to create my standby database though RMAN and I am getting an error. I issued by backup standby controlfile then backed up my archive logs. I have nightly full compressed backups. I also tired without the dorecover command and the same thing happened. I hate to ask this but I don't need to copy over my backups and stdby control file to the destination target database? From my reading everything stays on the primary and it gets moved over when I run the duplicate for standby command. All my backups and standby controlfile is on the primary and I am running this command from the primary. on RH 5 enterprise

      rman target / auxiliary sys/@BCSTDBY_40;

          All my Oracle 10's are long gone. That said this :

          Should work on Oracle 10.

          Best Regards

            Okay thanks. So I guess not copying over the backup is a problem then lol. Does it matter if I am on the primary or the stdby when I connect to RMAN and issue the duplicate command? Yours looks like you are on the stdby when you issue that command but it looks like the 10g documentation does it from the primary.

            Step 5

              Hello again;
               Does it matter if I am on the primary or the stdby when I connect to RMAN?
              Yes. I would always start duplicate from the Standby server. Always

              Check your document link---

              Cannot disagree with how you read the Oracle document. But I know my method works. Seems like they are making harder than it should be and they are not very clear about what server the RMAN command is issued from.

              Best Regards
