        I believe you are using EMC Networker..

        I did a recovery few days ago...

        Few things to note :

        If there is retention policy set in the Networker for your DB backup after the rention policy it could delete the entry in the media database of networker.

        1. You need to check with your backup admin to atleast see if the backups are available in netowrker... you should atleast see some index on those specific time from savesets.
        2. Is the backup info seen in networker?? vey important if not you have to scan the entire tape tp update the Media database of networker..Once if it is confirmed then we can move...

        i recovered from 1 month old tape.......ANother important thing you need to give the NSR_CLIENT value to the production server so that the restore will look for the backups of the PROD SERVER

        Edited by: Maran Viswarayar on Mar 12, 2013 6:20 PM Added the NSR_CLIENT info

            Have you set the correct NSR_CLIENT ? It should be the "production" db server so that the NSR server knows that it is restoring a production copy.

              Hi Hemant,

              Below is total save set details send by backup team on every sunday once completes full backup.So NSR_CLIENT i given correct name only see in the below client

              **uidl1−rac−a16−001−vip.uidl1.dom* {Client}*

              **RMAN:/NMO_MDA_c−1022799756−20130310−00*/ {Save Set} -->This is the name in the log seperately taken for Control file..so by using this name we can restore control file and spfile from via tape.*

              **full* {Level}*

              **browsable* {Status}*

              **LTOUltrium−5* {MediaType}*

              **UI1014L5(82.0, c)* {VolumeName}*

              **L1MDAFULLWEEKLY* {Pool}*

              **60 MB* {Size}*

              **1* {Files}*

              **24/2/13 1:21:11 PM* {SaveTime}*

              Please tell me if any thing wrong i am doing while restoring FULL DB Backup to test server via tape....?

              Thanks & Regards

                run

                     'sql alter database mount';
                }
                also you need to add entry of the prod server in the /etc/host file--<, This is very important

                    You are still stuck on the RESTORE CONTROLFILE. What could be worse is if the RESTORE DATABASE also doesn't work.

                    I suggest that you take a CONTROLFILE BACKUP on disk, copy the backup to the Test Server, restore the controlfile from the backup and then try a RESTORE DATABASE from tape.

                      Whats the retention period?

                      are you able to see those savesets from the networker? are they available in the tape...You backup directly to tape right?

                      Do you backup the control files?? or autobackup configured?

                      post your backup script.

                      Missed out the another thing. THe new server User say ORacle should be a memeber Networker admin to be able to read from the device.. I forgot its Netwoekjer admin or user...and this test server has to be added to the PROD Server confgurations in the networker..There would be a tab named global indexes where you need to add the New server name

                          Hi Maran,

                          -->Retention period for full backup is 1 year.
                          -->yes i have seen the savesets from networker..backup team will send's the save set details on by every week after mda full backup completion..yes they are available in the tape...yes backup is going directly to tape only..!
                          -->yes for every backup control file and spfile backup is going on..!

                          My backup script is below for full backup:

                          Without control restoration we can't go a head for database restore rt..!

                          We can do control file restoration from my production but the thing is we are testing from tape whther backup are going fine or not.

                          Ok i will try once by using controlfile backup from my production disk..can you please let me know the procedure for control file and spfile backup from my produciton and restore to test server..once i tried with controlfile trace backup and restore but it doesn;t work..!

                            Backup and restore controlfile to/from disk :
                            BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE FORMAT '/tmp/cntrlfile_backup.dbf';
                            rcp/scp the backup to the test server
                            RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/tmp/cntrlfile_backup.dbf';
                            If you use a controlfile trace, you need the datafiles to be present for the CREATE CONTROLFILE to work. Also, if you do a CREATE CONTROLFILE, you lose all the RMAN repository information that would have been in the controlfile ! (you have to then rely on the RMAN Catalog)

                                  While pasting the output by mistake its came like this uidl1-rac-a1 6*-001-vip.uidl1.dom*...actually i am tried with out space only

                                    I know that the controlfile disk backup restore would work.

                                    My point is : Once you have the controlfile, see if you can RESTORE DATABASE from tape.
