Report with links to external source files

I have just started playing with application express but I cannot find a good solution to my idea.

Application which I`m creating would work only inside domain.
In the report I would like to have a link to files that stored outside from oracle server ( so apex cannot see the file but knows the
absolute path to the file ).

And when I click in the report on the link to the file I would like to
have this file opened in the application controlled from my OS ( naturally if I have rights to the path specified given from domain level).

I have been trying with column link ( a href, file:// ) and none of them works.

I want to avoid APEX from copying files to local path or opening using java or creating directory.

If u know any solution please let me know,
I`m not familiar with javascript :)

Regards MK

Pretty sure you're encountering security being applied by your browser.

If you check out your browser's console log, you'll probably see a message similar to:
Not allowed to load local resource: file:///
I'd be curious if there is a workaround.

can you access to this file location server or computer from other computers (I guess you are using APEX in intranet)? if yes then you can probably do it in couple of ways. Creating a shared drive and store all the files in there then try if you can access from the browser url like
instead of the absolute path of the file (C:\FOLDER_NAME\FILE_NAME)

Hope this helps. You might have to consider the security issues like user specific permission if that folder contains confidential documents and you don't want to expose them to all.
