TCP connectivity of subnet error : pre installation check  oracle 11.2 RAC

    932792
      Hi,

I am trying to setup RAC 11.2 on Centos 5.7.

When I run the preinstallation check, I am getting this error:

There is some problem between the physical IP and the private IP connection.
However I am able to ping successfully and also SSH successfully between the physical IP and the private IP.

      What could be the problem?

it looks like you could have confused IP addresses and NICs

          What is node "falca"???
          falca:192.168.100.218 rac2:192.168.210.102 failed

Look at your /etc/hosts and dns to ensure that you are pointing the public subnets to public subnets and private subnets to private subnets.

          Example:

          192.168.200.1 rac1 - on eth0
          192.168.200.3 rac2 - on eth0

          192.168.200.2 rac1-vip - on eth0
          192.168.200.4 rac2-vip - on eth0

          192.168.100.1 rac1-private - on eth2
          192.168.100.2 rac2-private - on eth2

          nslookup rac-scan
          192.168.200.5
          192.168.200.6
          192.168.200.7

Note the subnets. I would take it a step further and use a 10.xxx.xxx.xxx subnet for the private. Also ensure that you are using the same nic interface names on all nodes (see above) it is highly recommended that the private interconnect be on a dedicated switch(es), the private hostnames/addresses are NOT in dns and cannot in any way communicate with the public addresses.

            Hi onedbguru,

            Thanks for your reply.

When i ping using I am getting a valid output.
            [root@falca ~]# nslookup falcen6-scan.a.pri
            Server: 192.168.100.21
            Address: 192.168.100.21#53

            Name: falcen6-scan.a.pri
            Address: 192.168.100.209
            Name: falcen6-scan.a.pri
            Address: 192.168.100.210
            Name: falcen6-scan.a.pri
            Address: 192.168.100.208

and yes in my network settings eth0 is pointing to public and eth1 is pointing to private.

I have not given any subnet value for private address.

            my etc/hosts

            [root@falca ~]# cat /etc/hosts
            # Do not remove the following line, or various programs
            # that require network functionality will fail.

            # Private

            #192.168.100.210 falcen6-scan.a.pri rac-scan

However when i do nslookup rac-scan, it fails

            [root@falca ~]# nslookup rac-scan
            Server: 192.168.100.21

Also, I found the following :

Interfaces found on subnet "192.168.100.0" that are likely candidates for VIP are:
              rac2 eth0:192.168.100.219
              rac1 eth0:192.168.100.218

The vip address which I have defined in the /etc/hosts file is
              192.168.100.212
              192.168.100.213

192.168.100.218 is the physical IP of rac1 and
192.168.100.219 is the physical IP of rac2

VIP address are getting read wrongly.

I found this on the net to check if the scan is setup correctly:

WHen i ran it I got an error.
                Could this be the issue?

                [oracle@falca bin]$ ./cluvfy comp scan -verbose

                Verifying scan

                ERROR:
Unable to read inventory configuration file "/etc/oraInst.loc"

                ERROR:

                Verification cannot proceed

Verification of scan was unsuccessful on all the specified nodes.

                  HI ,

Never mind. there was a problem with my /etc/hosts config file.

Instead of giving the names as rac1 and rac2 , i should have named them falca and falcb.

                  Thanks for your time onedbguru.
