Enable the lpq service.
Can you please give me more detail how can do that.
I would appreciate if you would give me step by step info.
The procedure can a little bit differ depending on the Windows version.
How to Install Print Services
Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
Insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM into the computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Press and hold down SHIFT as you insert the disc to prevent it from starting automatically.
Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Components list, click Other Network File and Print Services (but do not select or clear the check box), and then click Details.
In the Subcomponents of Other Network File and Print Services list, click to select one or more of the following check boxes, as appropriate to the print services that you want to install:
If you have not already installed the AppleTalk protocol, it is installed automatically when you install Print Services for Macintosh.
Print Services for UNIX: This option permits UNIX clients to print to any printer that is available to the print server.
When you install Print Services for UNIX, this automatically installs the LPR port and the TCP/IP Print Server service.
Click OK, and then click Next.
This can be the pre-requisite at windows level where printer is installed and shared,
Now I wan to configure it in soloaris operating system how it can be able to print from solaris to windows attached system.
Check this page : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/819-7355/printsetup-30.html#ertsp
Thanks for your reply, As I come to know that I need to enable LPR printing on the windows host. Can you please verify which one I have to install.
Normally we test printer through telnet ip 515 if it response its means it is pinging and for this we need LPR printing. can you please again confirm
should i enable LPQ AND LPR and what is the difference b/w those.
Let me clear again the scenario for which your are helping me as I can guess may be my question you could not understand well.
lq-690 printer is attached/installed with window system and have been shared on network. I have one server with sun solaris machine and want to issue
print command from solaris on the printer that is attached with window system.
now the lpq services need to install as you have given all steps above to check more clearance.
In the printing word and not only in Solaris, we have several methods to use and transfer print job to a network device : BSD, System V and IPP. In Solaris, we support all of these. Windows, what I known, supports BSD and IPP.
System V and BSD use different methods to set up print queues, spool print requests, and administer print queues.
