    asm instance for another database

    user11062519
      hi,

we are using oracle 11.2.0.3.0 on solaris 10 sparc 64 bit with ASM configured. Now we want to install new database on the same server .My question is asm instance is already install and up now for new database did we have to configure new asm instance using oracle grid infrastructure ? or just run dbac and create a database.

      Thanks

Yes. Only one ASM instance can run on single server.

            Hi Zeeshan

You can create database with dbca.

If you are using RAC database, then every node have only one ASM instance with name (ASM<node number> for ex. ASM1, ASM2)
If you are isntalled GI standalone, then ASM instance name is ASM, so every server have running only one ASM instance.

All of Databases using this same ASM instance for connect ASM disks.

No need to configure the new ASM instance, you can create any number of databases until your resources permit.

I would consider adding separate disk groups per database like: DATA_DB1, DATA_DB2 etc...
