    What contains the autobackup folder?

    yxes2013
      Hi all,

      10g

      I checked our autobackup folder, and I see this file:
      oracle@sdb51:/u01/app/oracle/flash_recovery_area/PROD/autobackup/2013_04_30> ls
      o1_mf_s_814110141_8qypfxjy_.bkp

      test1.__shared_pool_size=486539264

      *.audit_file_dest='/u01/app/oracle/admin/PROD/adump'
      *.background_dump_dest='/u01/app/oracle/admin/PROD/bdump'
      *.compatible='10.2.0.3.0'
      *.control_files='/u01/app/oracle/oradata/PROD/control01.ctl','/u01/app/oracle/oradata/PROD/control02.ctl','/u01/app/oracle/oradata/PROD/control03.ctl'#Restore Controlfile
      Is this the controlfile or the spfile? It looks like an spfile?

      Thanks a lot,

            Check this

            http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/setup004.htm#i1017907

            Also it is spfile in your case.

              Why would a control file have instance-related parameters in it?

              I think you've answered your own question

                check in rman your configuration:

                rman> show all;

                probably you have something like:
                CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u01/app/oracle/flash_recovery_area/PROD/autobackup/<your_file>';

                and

                CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;

                in that folder you will have controlfile and spfile for each backup/change you have done. And yes probably is the spfile, it's look like ... :P

                  Hi,

                  If you configure RMAN CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON, then RMAN take control file and spfile backup automatically after backup command.

                  Documentation says: RMAN can be configured to automatically back up the control file and server parameter file whenever the database structure metadata in the control file changes and whenever a backup record is added.

                  Se more : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/setup004.htm

                      Both. An AUTOBACKUP consists of both the controlfile and the spfile. It is a backuppiece containing two backups (controlfile and spfile).

                      See the first line at
                      http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/setup004.htm#sthref232

                        i thank you all :)

                        So why is the two merged? If I restore my backup does RMAN splits it into 2?

                          It means, you can restore spfile and control file from same backup piece.

                          Edited for code:

                          If you are list your backuppiece for autobackup. You can see, there have not any different backup pieces.

                          RMAN>  list backuppiece 'D:\ORACLE\FRA\PORTDB\PORTDB\AUTOBACKUP\2013_04_24\O1_MF_S_813621685_8QJ3Z5T5_.BKP';

                          List of Backup Pieces
                          BP Key  BS Key  Pc# Cp# Status      Device Type Piece Name
                          ------- ------- --- --- ----------- ----------- ----------
                          182     182     1   1   AVAILABLE   DISK        D:\ORACLE\FRA\PORTDB\PORTDB\AUTOBACKUP\2013_04_24\O1_MF_S_813621685_8QJ3Z5T5_.BKP
                          It means, controlfile and spfile is in same backup piece.

                            Just like several datafiles can be merged in a single backupset and still RMAN is capable of restoring a single datafile form that backup set.

                              I also checked my backupset:
                              oracle@sdb51:/u01/app/oracle/flash_recovery_area/TEST1/backupset/2013_04_30> ls -l

                              Why are there 2 files? what is this smaller TAG file? I guess the big are the datafiles.

                              Thanks a lot...

                                Connect to your RMAN and issue command "list backup".

                                  I think big size file is datafies, small size file is archived logs.
                                  Did you using backup database plus archivelog; command for backup?

                                  Mahir
