You are trying to execute the sqlplus from root user Why? change it to oracle user and then try
what is your OS version/Db version.
Dear DK2010 ,
same issue from "Oracle" users ....
[oracle@-WEB-REPORTING2 ~]$ sqlplus
Oracle version =10G
OS= Linux 5.5
have you install new patch in your Environment.
please check the metalink note for that
Segmentation Fault When Execute Sqlplus, Oracle, Lsnrctl After New/Patchset Install [ID 316746.1]
I dont if such a situation is possible with your specific problem but for your knolwdge, globally
Segmentation fault might come from the operating system also when the API memory overflows beyond those given from the OS.
Like in C programming for example if you declare a CHAR(10) and try to write 11 characters.
The Aplication was granted only 10 chars (bytes) so OS sees it trying to write outside from its declared borders and stops it.
It is an OS security mechanism to prevent hacking which was common by this way until 2005 (Windows XP and old Linux versions )
