          Hi,

Please follow this section of the User Guide:

          http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35328_01/E35332/html/vmusg-storage-manage.html#vmusg-storage-local-use

Basically, if you have a spare local disk, you should be able to see it when you create a SR.

          Cheers.

IF AND ONLY IF_ you can partition your drive from a BIOS level or RAID controller setup, you can partition the free space of your drive so that OVM will accept it as a separate disk and allow you to use it for local storage.
If your BIOS doesn't support that level of partioning or you do not have a RAID controller - then you must use separate drives for this.

If you can't partition below the OS, another option may be to boot to a USB drive. There was a recent thread about booting to a USB thumb drive and then using your local drive as storage.

I used to configure successfully many times about this. It is very easy to make Local Storage Repository, you just follow below steps:

                you must have at least:

                - 2 disks
                - or 2 groups of array
                - if you have only 2 disks and want to configure as RAID(1), you can create 2 virtual disks

Fist one for OVM Server OS, another one for Local Storage Repository.

Note: First one should be smaller than another one.

if you have problem more, please post issue on this forum.

                Best wishes,
                Heng

                  Hi

                  Thanks for your valuable reply.

I have a server with below configuration

                  Server Model : Dell

                  HDD : 146GB * 8

                  RAM : 350GB

                  Raid Level : 5

Below steps i have done as of now.

                  1. Created 2 Raid

                  2. Installed the OVM server in /dev/sda

                  3. Having the /dev/sdb for local storage.

                  Now i am trying to create a repository , i can't

Kindly help me to solve this issue.

                    Hi,

You can solve this during the installation of Oracle VM Server when you edit the table partition. (Create new partition and mount it on /OVS)

I will test this and i will tell you how

I hope this can help you :)

                      Your issue is /dev/sdb
When you install the OVM server, DON'T select the second partition when you configure your partitions - leave it as RAW space...

If sdb is partitioned at all, OVM won't accept it as local storage.

                            Hi

Thanks for all to helped me to complete the installation of OVM 3.2.1 the local storage.

We have configured the storage part now , but we are facing some challenges in creating http link for importing iso images.

Below mentioned are the steps that we followed.

                            1. Copied the iso file into a location
                            2. Installed Apache.
                            3. cd /var/www/html/ (Creating a directory into this location)
                            mkdir linux
                            4.mount -o ro,loop /"iso file path linux

Then I try downloading the iso via http , it's saying requested url was not found on the server.

Kindly help us to solve this issue

                            Regards

                              Hi,

if you want to import an ISO image, why you mount it?

                              after you complete your installation.

1- discover server. (if your installation is finished good, then you found your server in Onglet Servers and VMs / unassigned servers)
2- Go to Perspective / Physical Disk to verify that detect the second partition
3- if it's good, then crearte a pool with no Clustered Server Pool.
4- create a repository on your physical disk.
5- Go to ISOs in your repository and click import iso image.

Now, verify that your apache/httpd server it is working or not.

                              1- after you install apache/httpd
2- you shoud verify if it is running or not (pgrep httpd) if not start it (e.g. service httpd start )
3- copy the ISO file under /var/www/html
4- open your browser and verify.

and at this point i think it is good.

then copy the url to import the iso file with Oracle VM Manager

                              the URL Look's like http://IP-Address/image-iso.iso

you should verify that the IP-Address is reached from the Oracle VM Server.

                              and that's it

I tested it: and in my case:

i have copied the windows iso image:
                              cp ../windowsXP.iso /var/www/html/

and now my URL is like * http://IP-Address/windowsXP.iso*

I hope this can help you
                              Best Regards
