hello, for rac you need 2 or more nodes, that you will do?? use 2 or more laptops?
if you have plenty of ram, you can do Oracle RAC inside Virtualbox for lab and testing.
google about oracle rac virtualbox and you will find plenty of howto/manuals how to do this.
Oracle Linux or any other Linux distribution based on RHEL is not designed to be installed on a Laptop or desktop computer. A USB LAN card is not a typical server peripheral and support will depend on the card manufacturer or open source software community. Whether support for Oracle Linux exists is another question, which I rather doubt. You could switch from the Oracle Linux to the supplied original RHCK Red Hat Compatibility Kernel, for which it might be easier to find a compatible USB LAN card and driver. I would rather try to do this in VirtualBox, where you can have up to 4 virtual NIC.s
Thanks for the info. Wait, I thought I would need node 1 and node 2. I want to build cluster, and it needs at minimum two nodes, doesn't it? I have only two laptops, and if I can't really do actual rac then I can try virtualbox, but first I want to build actual RAC..
I just bought a cheap NIC and tried it, and it worked. Now I have two NIC, eth0 and eth1 for two laptops. I understand Oracle Linux is not designed to be installed on laptop, but just for studying / testing purpose, do you think I should be able to continue and build RAC using these two laptops? I don't have DNS / DHCP but I am thinking to just use /etc/hosts for name resolution.
I guess in some cases trying is the only way to get a reliable answer. As far as RAC concerns, /etc/hosts will be fine, just keep it synchronized.

are some requirments , like shared storage
RAC will take, RAW device, block device, that can be SCSI, SAS, iSCSI, or lun by fiber channel, here in your setup, you wioll need to read about iscsi and use an storage
other option is use NFS, this will be more easy to implement.. if you have a 3rd machine you can setup it as NFS and mount the NFS int he 2 laptos
