I am trying to open my standby database but this fails with the following error
SQL> startup nomount
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 107939720 bytes
Fixed Size 100232 bytes
Variable Size 50216960 bytes
Database Buffers 57344000 bytes
Redo Buffers 278528 bytes
SQL> alter database mount standby database;
SQL> alter database open read only;
alter database open read only
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
The strange thing is, according to v$database the instance is open in read only mode just as the statement must do (alter database open read only)
SQL> select open_mode from v$database;
But when connecting with an ordinary user I get
SQL> connect outln/outln
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.
So it seems open as read onyl, but in some way it is not open. It is in a historic version of Oracle (please don't laugh) it's Oracle version 8.1.7.on OpenVMS
8.1.7 is not support yet.
You can startup in readonly directly? I remenber 8.1.7 (standby) and it was awfull. Any trace file? maybe configuring an event for 3113. I suppose VMS Image is good configured.
